Technique: Batik Tulis – entirely handcrafted through the application of hot wax with a canting, followed by multiple immersions in natural dyes. This is a unique work of art, executed without the use of stencils (cap).
Artistic Description: This textile work represents a refined expression of the traditional batik art native to Lasem, a coastal town in Central Java renowned for its exceptional artisanal mastery and its unique Javanese-Chinese cultural fusion.
The design is organized into two main registers: the upper section displays an enchanted garden filled with intertwining vines, tropical birds, and multi-petaled flowers rendered in hues of oxblood red, indigo blue, and beige against a lighter background.
The lower band is adorned with a composition of tumpal motifs (inverted triangles), symbols of spiritual protection, complemented by small circular floral elements that evoke balance and harmony.
The reverse side of the piece, treated with artistic finesse, reveals a variant of the same design on a deep red background, attesting to its possible ceremonial use and the dual-layered artisan process applied.
