Indonesian underplate (2) batik using the Tulis technique, handmade with natural dyes, dates back to between 1920 and 1930.
History:
West Sumatra, known as Ranah Minang, boasts a traditional batik called Batik Tanah Liek (clay). It is called Batik Tanah Liek because the dyeing process begins with dipping it in clay. In short, Tanah Liek batik does not differ much from other batiks in general. However, it has a unique and exclusive performance, especially in its production process and the dye used. However, due to market demand, this Tanah Liek batik is not only brown but is also dyed with other sources of natural dyes, such as Phitecolobium skin, Nephelium skin, Gambier, mahogany skin, etc. The materials are also made of cotton or silk. The motifs are varied, such as climbing plants or conical roots, curved fern leaves, bamboo shoots, and so on.
This is a very beautiful underplate, an example of batik designs.
