Artistic Description:
This delicate textile fragment, titled “Light of Isfahan”, features hand embroidery on a deep blue silk base with a luminous, almost radiant undertone. The fabric itself is woven with an integrated floral texture, upon which an intricate gold metallic thread embroidery is carefully stitched. Tiny metallic sequins enrich the surface with subtle brilliance and refined rhythm.
The composition unfolds in elegant vertical ornamental bands, evoking the serenity of ancient Persian gardens and ceremonial court textiles. The interplay between luminous blue and noble gold gives the piece a striking and sophisticated presence.
Historical Context:
This type of textile was associated with ritual and courtly settings in the Muslim world during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It may have once formed part of a ceremonial skirt, a decorative banner, a festive mantle or a sacred textile used in religious or aristocratic contexts. Condition: Excellent condition for its age, it is unstained, unholed, the embroidery and color are very good, as shown in the photos in the description, ideal for framing as a collector's item.
Provenance: Private collection of the AStücke family, belonging to a collection of oriental textiles preserved in antique trunks brought from Asia by previous generations of the family. The piece arrived in perfect condition, with no alterations or subsequent interventions.
