CELADON BOWL – “Jade Reflection” China – Possibly Qing Dynasty (ca. 1800–1900)
✧ Artistic Description:
This robust yet refined rice bowl, titled “Jade Reflection”, is a striking example of Chinese celadon craftsmanship — a ceramic tradition revered for its subtle elegance and jade-like finish. The entire surface is covered in a transparent green glaze that has aged beautifully, revealing a complex craquelure pattern that dances under the light like a network of ancient veins in stone.
The vessel’s deep olive-green tone suggests influence from the legendary Longquan celadon kilns, whose pieces were admired across dynasties. Its perfectly rounded body and small footrim point to a utilitarian origin, possibly used for rice or tea, but crafted with an aesthetic eye typical of refined domestic wares during the late Qing period.
The play of glaze over the bowl’s form evokes calm and clarity — qualities traditionally associated with celadon in Chinese culture, where such ceramics were often seen as objects of harmony and scholarly refinement. Its stylistic features suggest likely production in Zhejiang province, one of China’s most celebrated celadon centers since the Song dynasty.
