KURDISH BANDOLIER – “The Path of the Nomad”
✧ Artistic Description:
“The Path of the Nomad” is a rare textile artifact from the Kurdish highlands, believed to have been handwoven in the 19th century. Once used as a bandolier or mafrash, this piece was part of the nomadic toolkit—carried across rugged terrains to store food and supplies. Its robust construction and symbolic motifs tell a story of movement, endurance, and identity.
The tapestry features deeply saturated natural tones—brick red, earth brown, deep blue, and ivory—woven into dynamic geometric forms. Each pattern reflects ancestral iconography and tribal aesthetics preserved through generations of Kurdish artisanship. The thickness and meticulous weaving technique denote its dual use as both a utilitarian and ceremonial object.
This textile embodies the balance between practicality and expression, showcasing the cultural legacy of Kurdish weaving traditions, which bridge daily life and artistry in perfect harmony.
